A skylight transforms a dark room into a bright, open space โ but only if it's installed correctly. Skylights are roof penetrations, and roof penetrations are where leaks start. Duxbury Roofing & Maintenance installs skylights the right way: structural curb framed between rafters, ice-and-water shield on all four sides, step flashing and counter-flashing integrated into the shingle field, and a watertight seal verified from inside the attic.
VELUX, Fakro, and Sun-Tek are the skylight brands we install most in Duxbury. Each offers fixed and vented options, tempered and laminated glass, and blinds and shades built into the unit. We help you select the right size and type for your roof pitch, room layout, and ventilation needs.
Our Skylight Installation Process
Site Assessment
Free on-site assessment. We check your roof structure, identify the optimal position between rafters, and present skylight options with honest pricing. Sun angle analysis included.
Curb Construction
Precise opening cut through the roof deck. Structural curb framed between trusses with load-bearing headers. Every cut edge of the sheathing sealed. The curb is the structural foundation โ we don't skimp on the framing.
Seal Integration
Ice-and-water shield wrapped around the entire curb perimeter. Step flashing installed on all four sides, woven into the shingle courses. Counter-flashing at the top integrates with the shingles above. Sealant at every transition point. This flashing system is what prevents leaks โ it's the most critical step.
Final Seal & Trim
Skylight unit set into the curb and flange sealed to the roof deck. Shingles re-laid around the unit with proper overlap. Inside, rigid insulation installed around the light shaft to prevent condensation. Interior trim finished. Watertight verified from the attic.

Why Choose Duxbury Roofing & Maintenance for Skylight Installation?
Code Compliant
Every skylight installation meets MA building code for structural framing, energy performance, and egress requirements. Permits pulled when required.
Brand Options
VELUX, Fakro, Sun-Tek โ fixed, vented, and tubular models. Tempered and laminated glass. Built-in blinds and shades. We help you choose the right unit for your roof, room, and budget.
Insulated Light Shafts
Every skylight installation includes rigid foam insulation around the light shaft. Uninsulated shafts cause condensation and energy loss. We insulate, vapor-seal, and trim the interior for a finished look.
Structural Curb Framing
We frame a proper structural curb between your rafters with doubled headers. No flimsy brackets or foam shims. The curb carries the skylight load and provides a solid base for the flashing system.
